Opportunities are NOT Luck
The Lemon Drop: Creating Your Own Opportunities
Do you believe in the myth of luck when it comes to opportunities? It's time to realize that opportunities are not chance events; they are created through deliberate actions and choices.
In this Lemon Drop, we'll dive deep into the concept that opportunities are not mere strokes of luck but the result of your actions and readiness. Let's explore how you can position yourself for opportunities and shift your perspective to take ownership of creating them.
The Slice: The Myth of Luck
“You just got lucky” when referencing new opportunities will make my blood boil. Opportunities don't just happen randomly; they are created through a combination of preparation, awareness, and action. It's about being in the right place, at the right time, with the right people, and in the right mindset.
January of 2021 I had plans of moving to South Georgia for a marketing position for a small start up company. A week before I planned to move, I received an opportunity from my Godfather to work for his land development company. I had no experience in real estate and it would require me to get four state licenses in a short period of time. At the end of that week I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and was taking real estate courses.
The job opportunity was presented to me because I was in proximity, with the right people, to receive it. I was ready for a new challenge but it was only an opportunity. Not only can you not award opportunities to luck, but what you make of it is what really matters. It can be taken away even quicker than it was granted. Luck and hard work do not exist together.
With plenty of setbacks along the way, I still committed to making the most of the job opportunity and the people who believed in me enough to present it. By the end of my first full year with the company I won the title of top sales producer.
Your decisions and responses will put you in the position for opportunities, your actions will be what you make of them. Trust yourself, trust the process and never fear a new opportunity. It is only up to you to make the most of it.
The Squeeze: Proactively Creating Your Path
To proactively create opportunities, you must start by taking responsibility for your actions and readiness. Being in the right place, at the right time, and with the right people isn't a matter of luck; it's a matter of choice. It's about actively seeking out new experiences and connections that align with your goals.
Practical Pointers: Seizing Your Chances
Set Clear Goals: Define your objectives and what opportunities align with them.
Network Actively: Build and nurture relationships with people who can help you on your journey.
Seek New Experiences: Be open to stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things.
Stay Prepared: Continuously develop your skills and knowledge to be ready when opportunities arise.
Positive Mindset: Believe in your ability to create opportunities and stay persistent.
The Sip: Take the Driver's Seat
It's time to take the driver's seat in your life and career. Stop waiting for luck to bring opportunities to your doorstep. Instead, actively seek out and create the chances you want. The energy of the world favors the prepared. Stay ready to seize the opportunities that come your way.

Opportunities are plentiful, believe in yourself enough to know you will succeed when the opportunity is right for you. And if an opportunity slides by, know this wasn’t for you to begin with.
