The Slice: Love After Heartbreak - A Special Journey to Self-Respect

The path of love after heartbreak is not something that can fully fit into this small excerpt of this newsletter, but since it is Valentine’s Day it is only appropriate to write about love so here it is in a nutshell…

My entire book is a journey of a road paved not just with external affection but one that required me to rediscover internal self-love, value, and respect. After getting divorced and completely starting over three years ago, this has been my priority.

After rebuilding myself back up, finding peace in being with just me and enjoying my individual freedom, allowing someone back into my life in a committed and romantic way has been more than a challenge.

I have been resistant to it with guards and walls up protecting myself and continuing the journey of growth, but I realized I would only start hindering myself by staying closed off to another relationship.

Here is a quote from my book and how I came to this understanding…an unspoken truth about growth: the walls that are meant to protect us end up staying up too long, and ultimately, can cause more damage.

This has required me to acknowledge there is a transformative power of having a special someone who supports and nurtures me through the healing process. I have not made it easy, but the love and genuine care I am fortunate to have and feel now is more than worth all the walls coming down. This feeling would not be possible if I had not committed the time to truly learning to love myself again.
