Unveiling Trauma - Acknowledging Its Presence in Everyday Dysfunction

The Lemon Drop: Rethinking Trauma

Have you considered that trauma isn't limited to extreme situations marked by a capital "T"?

In this Lemon Drop, we unravel the layers of trauma, urging recognition and understanding. Today, we challenge the misconception that trauma only exists in the most severe circumstances. In reality, trauma can manifest in various forms, causing dysfunction in our lives.

The Slice: Redefining Trauma - Dysfunction in Everyday Life

“I always considered trauma as something more severe than anything I had ever had to deal with, like being denied basic necessities. I also felt that the only way to prove strength or get over something was to move on and forget about it. I denied my feelings after feeling too much.”

Quoted directly from my book, Always Squeezing Lemons, launching May of 2024. Trauma is not exclusive to extreme situations and we cannot compare our traumas. There are extreme situations that many of us will never experience. But if all we do is compare the severity of what is causing dysfunction in our lives to others, we will never be able to process the experience for what it is…trauma.
